matchbox DC is growing just a little bigger… ! Chinatown DC Hotspot Expands to Spread the Love
April, 4, 2006-Washington, DC. matchbox vintage pizza bistro www.matchboxdc.com is happy to announce the expansion of its downtown DC location (713 H St. NW; 202-289-4441)! Named Best New DC Restaurant for 2004, matchbox is working to spread the love by doubling in size. Originally seating 75, the new plans include an additional 75 seats, two private party rooms, an outdoor fire bar on the deck, and a renovated kitchen for onsite events as well as offsite catering.
To make sure service won’t suffer, the owners–Drew, Mark, Perry and Ty –teamed up once again with artisan Pat Manley to construct a second old-world pizza oven for the new space! Other special features include an atrium of architectural steel and glass, a custom designed ‘hidden bar,’ and luxurious booths trimmed in 100 year old barn wood. Of course, maintaining the traditional matchbox look and feel was a big concern, so rest assured the renovations were seamlessly blended with a balanced mixture of the traditional features of rich woods, architectural metals, crisp lighting and vintage brick.
matchbox is nationally renowned for its mini bistro burgers, salads and for its perfect, wood-fired pizza, made from fresh-cut cheeses, zesty marinara, and distinctive toppings. The Washington Times declares, ‘When you go to matchbox, think pizza. Excellent pizza. The crust is thin and chewy, the toppings interesting and not overwhelming.” Toppings include everything from traditional standbys like sweet Italian sausage and fresh cut pepperoni to sautéed cremini mushrooms and a “fire and smoke” combination of roasted peppers, chipotle-tomato sauce and smoked gouda.
matchbox is excited to unveil the new addition sometime mid-summer, 2006. They will be extending hours of operation to include Sundays and will now be able to accommodate group reservations.
