Saving Greenbacks while Going Green

With all eyes on our struggling economy and growing concerns for the environment, a majority of companies are looking for solutions that both save money and the environment. Blue Water Media’s web and graphic design departments are here to help companies move towards going green while saving green. Here are a few things to consider when beginning your next project.

Web Updates and E-newsletters
Keep your web site fresh and up-to-date, adding new content and/or features you will keep your visitors intrigued. Through the very nature of their business some companies update their sites consistently. Whether it be new products, services, events, promotions, specials, press releases, blogs, or message boards each of these help to build the interactivity of your site, and will improve traffic to establish a stronger web presence.

An effective way to reach your client base fast is to send out regular newsletters. The end goal is to make it extremely useful and interesting to the subscribing client. E-newsletters can contain a variety of information. So what should you put in your newsletter? Well that all depends on your company; some options are to promote products, specials, and events or highlight a blog. The goal is to drive traffic to your site and keep clients updated.

By updating your site regularly and sending out email newsletters you are decreasing your carbon footprint. With the high cost of printing, direct mail marketing, and magazine advertising these two solutions are easy on the budget.

Printing green
While, we are all trying to become more environmentally conscious, there are a few projects that need a physical printed piece. How can you become more environmentally conscious while taking on print projects such as annual reports, and corporate branding packages? The answer is to print on recycled products with a high level of post-consumer content or Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Certified Papers.

Choosing recycled paper not only saves landfill space but it reduces consumption of water and energy use to make paper. FSC certified papers, are papers made from FSC certified sources that work to eliminate habitat destruction, and water pollution by using sustainable forests.

Printing on recycled and FSC certified paper allows you to display the recycled and FSC logo. This shows your clients that you are actively taking steps to reduce your companies impact on the environment. Through planning, printed materials on recycled or FSC certified papers can be an economical choice
