Totalskincare.com is the creation of Dr. Barry J. Cohen, a Board Certified Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon. Dr. Cohen came to Blue Water Media in an effort to increase sales and broaden the exposure of his medically formulated, prescription strength skin care products via the Internet. To accomplish the overall goal, TotalSkinCare.com required a complete redesign and programming overhaul.

Objective:

Since 1998, TotalSkinCare.com has been providing customers with high end skin care products at discounted prices, but the industry has grown exponentially over time. Blue Water Media set out to create a website and customized shopping cart that would make the Total Skin Care website stand out in a stiffly competitive market place. Based on their extensive line of skin care products, and an established brand identity, Blue Water Media developed a strategy for the new website that offered the customer more than just sales and information.

Blue Water designed a site involving flash imagery and a new navigation layout while maintaining core brand identity. They created a user friendly, on-line shopping cart that could accommodate the large quantity of products and provide a way to search with ease through the different skin care solutions. The cart allows customers to search the extensive online database by products, brands, skin conditions, ingredients, or other detailed search criteria enabling them to find the best fit product in the least amount of time.

Other specialized features of the cart included:

  • The Total Skin Care Wish List – customers have the ability to set aside items of interest for purchase at a later date.
  • The Skin Care Info question and answer section.
  • Reminder to Buy Function. This is an automated service that Blue Water Media created for Total Skin Care that calculates the approximate time that it will take for a patient to use the product based on Dr. recommended application. When the refill time approaches, the patient receives a reminder to reorder from TotalSkinCare.com.
  • The Skin Care Analysis providing real time professional medical feedback based on a set of conditions provided by the patient.
  • A Member Incentive Program – allocates points to the customer's individual account when items are purchased. Customers can redeem member bonus points at check out for product discounts, shipping discounts and free merchandise.
  • Live Chat - allows customers to interact with a skin care consultant during business hours.

Impact Results:

The Totalskincare.com customer feedback was very positive. The customized special features set TotalSkinCare.com apart from the competition. Customer retention, repeat visitors, and total sales have all increased. This increase is most prevalent in the Pay-Per-Click campaigns where the rate of conversion decreased by almost $70 per online inquiry. The website is now easy to maneuver, and with such fluid search functions and customer friendly services it encourages and will continue to encourage return visitors and increased sales results.
